WFTrain:Intro

Overview

netFORUM Workflow, released in netFORUM 3.0, allows you to take a manual Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and automate it behind the scenes in the netFORUM application. Workflow does not depend on a User Interface, but is a process which is triggered by changes in netFORUM data. This change can originate in iWeb, eWeb, or xWeb. Workflow rules are associated with a specific field, inside a specific netFORUM object.

With Workflow you can:

  • Update, Insert or Delete data using the netFORUM framework.
  • Send an email based upon a correspondence template.
  • Create Assignments with built in task assignment functionality.
  • Execute a Web Service method.
  • Execute .NET program code.
  • Use conditional logic.

In this training, we will provide examples of each of the above as we take a common SOP and automate it using netFORUM Workflow.

Duration

One half day, from 9 AM to 1 PM with short breaks.

Target Audience

Although the Workflow Designer tool itself is simple to use, it requires advanced knowledge of netFORUM to know what to do with it.

Workflow is not for the everyday user. Workflow should be carefully setup by experienced, technically-minded power users who thoroughly understand netFORUM and its data.

We envision Workflow Training students (and Workflow designers) as IT specialists, database/software programmers, or technically-minded power users who understand relational databases like netFORUM.

Finally, given that Workflow debuted in netFORUM 3.0, your organization's netFORUM site should be on this release now or in the near future in order for you to use this feature.

Prerequisites

To get the most from this training, students should be familiar with netFORUM in general.

Since a Toolkit license is required to utilize Workflow, students should have this license.

Although this training is considered a technical training, you do not need a computer science degree. You will not write programming or SQL code in this training, but you must understand the netFORUM Object and Data Object model. Ideally, the student will have completed Toolkit Training and Data Model Training in order to learn the most from this training. Workflow is triggered by and interacts with the netFORUM Objects and Data Objects, which interlace with database tables and columns. If you don't have a solid grounding in these fundamentals, then parts of this training might not make sense to you.

Can I take this class even without the prerequisites?
