Salutations

When communicating with fundraising constituents, different occasions sometimes call for different salutations in your Marketing templates. One fundraising appeal might be cause to address a constituent as an individual, for example, whereas another might call for both the constituent and his or her spouse to be addressed. Relationships are often defined in the fundraising world when campaigns are launched and when, specifically, appeals for donations are made. To facilitate this, functionality netFORUM includes the ability to track multiple salutations for one constituent.

This functionality includes the following:

Note: The ability to select the format for salutations 1 - 4 are controlled by the following system options:* ConstituentSalutation1Format* ConstituentSalutation2Format* ConstituentSalutation3Format* ConstituentSalutation4Format

Be aware that the baseline settings for these options include a period after the prefix and suffix (so that Dr will become Dr.). Therefore, if the prefix and suffix codes in your system also contain a period, then you'll have two periods in the salutations. To correct this, edit the system options and remove the period after the prefix or suffix code.

Tracking Multiple Salutations

To set a salutation for a Constituent, use the following steps:

  1. Go to the constituent profile
  2. Click the edit button on the Actions Bar. The Edit - Fundraising Constituent for will appear.
  3. Set salutation 1-4 as needed and click Save.

As mentioned, once you have set salutations on the constituent profile, they may be manually used within Marketing templates as desired.

Setting a Default Recognition Salutation when Adding a Gift

You now have the ability to also edit salutations from the Individual profile. Click the Edit Salutations link from the Additional Information section, seen below, to do so. This will update both the Individual profile and the Constituent profile (if one exists) when you add salutations from the Individual profile.

When you set the salutation from the Individual Profile, you may also specify the default recognize as salutation as well through the corresponding drop-down.

This is the salutation that is automatically set in the recognize as field (by default) when you add a gift for that specific constituent if you use that field. In addition, the previous values drop-down menu will be populated with all of the other recognize as values ever used for this particular constituent to allow the default value to be overridden by selecting an option from this list.
