Downloadable Products
NetForum functionality allows products to be downloaded from your Web site after purchase. In addition, you can set limits on how long the download is made available after purchase, as well as how many times the file can be downloaded.
Note: The .zip and .epub file extensions are acceptable for downloadable products.
Downloadable Product Setup
When adding a product in NetForum , you have the option to provide Download Information that will allow purchasers to download it from your Web site.
To enable a product to be available via download, complete the following steps:
- Check the web checkbox located in the Delivery Method portion of the Add product form.
- Scroll to the Download Information section of the Add product form. This section contains the fields you must complete in order to make the product available for download from your Web site.
- If the product to be downloaded is a file, click the Browse button to locate the file on your local or network drive. Double click the file name to populate its path in the select a file field.
- If the product to be downloaded is on the Web, click the Download URL? checkbox. The Add form will refresh and the select a file field will be replaced with the download url field.
- If applicable, enter the URL of the product to be downloaded in the download url field.
- If the product is going to be available via email, check the email checkbox.
- Specify the number of days, from the date of purchase, that the product will be available for download in the days available field.
- If there is a limit on the number of times this product can be downloaded for a single purchase, enter that limit in the number of downloads field.
After the product is purchased, it will display on the My Transactions page, on the Downloads child form on eWeb. At that point, the product is downloadable for the amount of days entered on the set up, which is displayed on the days left column. In addition, the number of downloads available is tracked in the Downloads Left column.
Downloadable Products by Email in iWeb
Downloadable products that have been set to be downloaded via email will have a Ship to Email field available on the Centralized Order Entry form where the downloadable product is being purchased.
The Ship to Email field is tied to the ship to field. The individual listed in the ship to field will have all of the email addresses associated to their profile available in the Ship to Email drop-down menu.
This feature also allows an individual or organization to actually purchase the downloadable product, but select a different individual or organization to receive it. The purchasing individual or organization will have the invoice for the product associated to their profile.
Downloadable Products by Email in eWeb
Downloadable products that have been set to be downloaded via email will have a Ship to email drop-down menu available in the eWeb online store, where the downloadable product is being purchased.
This drop-down menu can be used to select the email address (provided the user has more than one available) where he/she would like to have the downloadable product emailed.
The Ship to email drop-down menu also allows you to edit or add email addresses by clicking on the appropriate icon.
Streaming Downloadable Products on eWeb
- Beginning in 2011.01.07 and 2013.01.01, eWeb no longer supports embedded streaming media players due to the complexity of dealing with different media file types. See Issue 10364.
- This feature requires that the eWebShowMediaPlayer systems option be enabled.
Downloadable products that are of a streaming media type, can be purchased, downloaded, and/or streamed from your eWeb site. In order for streaming content to be available for purchase on eWeb, the server must be set up to stream media and specifically set to the MIME type of media you wish to stream.
Purchasing a streaming (downloadable) product is no different than purchasing a regular downloadable product. You will not have the option to download or stream the product until the transaction is complete.
After completing payment for the streaming (downloadable) product, the Download icon is available to you on the Shopping Cart | Receipt page.
Clicking the Download icon will open a pop-up window with a media player embedded. From this window you can choose to click the play icon and stream the content or you can click the Save File link to save the file to your hard drive.
Note: Opening the product to stream its content counts as one of your downloads for this product. Clicking the Save File link from the media player does not charge you for another download.
Edit Downloadable Products
You may also edit downloadable products.
To edit a downloadable product, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the product's profile page in NetForum .
- Click the Edit button. This will open the product for editing.
- Scroll to the Download Information section. Here you can modify the file to be downloaded, the days the file is available, and the number of times it can be downloaded.
- To change the file to be downloaded, click the Remove Download Link icon. This will remove the old file associated to this product and provide a clear field to select a new file.
- To change the number of days the file is available for download, change the number in the days available field.
- To change the number of times the file can be downloaded, modify the number in the number of downloads field.
- When you have completed your changes, click the Save button.
Downloadable Product Overrides
Products can have the number of days available and number of downloads available values modified at the invoice level after a product has been purchased.
To override the days available or number of downloads for a product, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the invoice profile that contains the downloadable product as a line item.
- Expand the line items child form.
- Click the Edit icon next to the downloadable product on the invoice.
This will open the Edit - Products Purchased pop-up window.
- Scroll to the Download Information section of the form. Here you will see the number of days currently available for the download and how many days have passed since the purchase.
- If applicable, enter a new number in the days override field to override the default days available value displayed on the Edit - Products Purchased form.
The expire date value will change based on the number of days displayed in the days override field (you must click out of that field to see this change.)
- In addition to the days available information, the Download Information section also displays the number of downloads available for this product.
If applicable, modify the number displayed in the number override field to override the value shown in the default number available field.
- Click the Save button.
Note: The changes made to the downloadable product line item on an invoice, only apply to the invoice the line item it appears on. In other words, only the individual who purchased this line item will see these changes. This does not change the days available and/or downloads available settings for the product itself.
