Decay rate refers to whether a member's points will decrease during periods of inactivity. This prevents a member from being extremely active during the first six months of their membership and amassing a huge number of A-Score points, and then becoming totally inactive for the next two years (for example) and still having the A-Score of a more active member. Using the Decay Rate will give you a more accurate picture of a member's current activity within your organization.
You can view the decay settings for a Scoring Weight by clicking on the Expand Grandchild Form icon next to a particular Action Type. This will display the decay rate (if it has been set) for that item.
The decay rate shows how much of the total point value will be retained after the designated months of in activity. In the example above, you can see that after 24 months of inactivity for the Blogging Action Type, the member will only retain 75% of their total points earned for blogging. After 48 months of inactivity, their total will be reduced to 25% of the actual number of points earned.
Note: Decay only factors on Action-based Scoring Weights. Scoring Weights based on demographics do not decay; the points are fully active over the time the Customer maintains the qualifying demographic value.
When you create a Scoring Weight, you can choose one of four default decay rates:
Upon saving the Scoring Weight, that Weight will now decay according to the decay rate you selected. If desired, you may choose to tweak the decay settings as described in Adding Custom Decay Rates.
If you wish to alter your default decay rates, complete the following steps to edit or delete existing decay rates, or add new ones. Note that altering these defaults will not affect any Scoring Weights that already exist. Only new Weights will be affected.
To add a Decay Rate, use the following steps:
The Customer Setup Profile will refresh and display the new scoring decay in the scoring decay defaults child form.
To edit existing Decay Rates, complete the following steps:
The scoring decay defaults child form will update showing the new decay rate.
To delete an existing decay rate, complete the following steps:
The scoring decay defaults child form will update and the decay rate you deleted will no longer appear.
You can also add a custom decay rate to a Scoring Weight.
To add a custom decay rate, complete the following steps:
The decay rate for the Action Type will be modified on the scoring weight child form to display the custom decay rate you just created.
netFORUM contains four decay codes: Fast, Medium, Slow, None. These values are defined in the column definition for co_ascore_decay.dsa_code. If necessary, a client may alter the column definition to include more values than the four that are included in baseline.
