Setting Up Relationship Types

The Relationship Type defines the affiliation between the following entities:

  • Two individuals in an Individual Relationship. Example, colleague or partner.
  • Two organizations in an Organization Relationship. Example, branch or subsidiary.
  • An individual who is related to an organization via an Individual Organization Relationship. Example, CFO, staff, main contact.

This topic covers the steps necessary for setting up the values in the drop-down lists found in the Relationship tab in NetForum.

Adding a New Relationship Type

To add a new relationship type, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the CRM module.
  2. Click the Customer Setup hyperlink located on the CRM Overview page. The Customer Setup page appears.
  3. Click the Relationships tab, if it is not already selected.
  4. Click the Add icon located on the relationship type child form. The Add - Relationship Type pop-up window appears.
  5. Complete the following fields as needed:

    relationship Yes Enter the name of the new relationship type in the text field.
    category Yes

    Expand the drop-down menu and select the appropriate category for the new relationship type.

    Categories help define a relationship or role e.g., Individual, Organization, Corporate Role, Chapter Role, Sponsor Role, Award Entry, etc.

    relationship type Yes

    Expand the drop-down menu and select the appropriate relationship type for the new relationship.

    Types describe the relationship between two entities e.g. Individual / Organization, Individual / Individual, Individual / Chapter, Organization / Organization, Sponsor / Contact, or Exhibitor / Contact, etc.

    limit No

    Enter the maximum number of this type of relationship that can be created of this type.

    If the Individual / Organization or the Organization / Organization options are selected in the relationship type drop-down field, the limit field will appear. The limit will restrict the number of times that relationship can be used between a single parent organization and related organizations, or a single organization and related individuals.

    <relationship> area access flag No Click this check box if participants in this relationship will be able to view the <relationship> area on eWeb.
    <relationship> area access edit flag No Click this check box if participants in this relationship will have edit rights to the <relationship> area on eWeb.
    membership flow down? No Click the check box if all participants in this relationship are eligible for membership flow down.
    show on line? No Click the check box if the relationship should appear in eWeb.
    local relationship? No Click the check box if the relationship will be eligible for the union dues functionality.
    auto soft credit No Click the check box if this relationship will be awarded soft credits automatically if another participant in the relationship makes a donation.
    auto soft credit customer type No

    Select the customer type of the participant in the relationship that will cause soft credits to automatically awarded to the other participant in the relationship.

    For example, if the Individual option is selected and the individual makes a donation, the organization will get a soft credit. If the organization makes the donation, the individual will not get a soft credit (in this scenario.)

    If this field is left empty, both will cause soft credits to be awarded automatically.

  7. Click the Save button.
Tips:
  • If the Individual/Organization or the Organization/Organization options are selected in the relationship type drop-down field, the limit field will appear. The limit will restrict the number of times that relationship can be used between a single parent organization and related organizations, or a single organization and related individuals.
  • For a relationship type to have Organization Info (eWeb) access, check the organization area access flag? checkbox.
  • For a relationship type to have Organization Info (eWeb) edit rights, check the organization area access edit flag? checkbox.
