Adding a Gift Opportunity Secondary Contact

Gift opportunities can have both primary and secondary contacts. The primary contact for a gift opportunity is usually the constituent and is listed in the upper information portion of the Gift Opportunity Profile.

Secondary contacts are those individuals, organizations, or households that are also involved in the gift opportunity. These secondary contacts may have decision-making authority for the gift opportunity, or merely be added to serve as a point of contact in case the constituent is not available.

To add a secondary contact to a gift opportunity, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the Gift Opportunity Profile of the gift opportunity to which you wish to add a secondary contact.
  2. Click the Contacts tab in the child forms section of the profile to display the child forms.
  3. Click the contacts child form to expand the list to see which secondary contacts have already been added.
  4. Click the Add icon located on the contacts child form.The Add - Contact pop-up window appears.
  5. Complete the following fields as necessary:

    sort name Yes Enter the first few letters of the individual or organization that will be serving as a secondary contact for the gift opportunity and click the Search icon. A list of results matching your search criteria will appear.  Click the name of the individual, organization, or household that will serve as a secondary contact from the list. Their name will populate the sort name field.
    opportunity name Yes This field lists the name of the gift opportunity you are working with. This field is auto-populated and cannot be edited.
    relationship code Yes Expand the drop-down menu and select the relationship the secondary contact has with the gift opportunity. For instance, if the secondary contact is serving as a point of contact for information, select the point of contact relationship code. Relationship codes are added in the CRM module.
    start date No Enter a start date for the secondary contact if their relationship to this gift opportunity is only for a set amount of time.
    end date No Enter an end date for the secondary contact if their relationship to this gift opportunity is only for a set amount of time.
    notes No Enter any notes about the secondary contact in this field.
  7. Click the Save button.
  8. The contacts child form updates with the newly added contact.

  • Prior to adding a secondary contact you may find it useful to add your relationship codes in the Customer Setup section of the CRM module.
  • Clicking the Edit icon next to a secondary contacts listing on the contacts child form will open the Edit - Contact pop-up window and allow you to make any necessary changes.
  • Clicking the GoTo icon next to a contact will take you to that contact's profile page.
