Source Code
Source Codes are used to determine the effectiveness of mailings (both email and direct mail.) Source codes can be used to determine which mailings drove the most Event registrations, which mailings drove the most Membership purchases (or renewals), and which mailings drove the most Fundraising donations. Source Codes are very useful in determining the effectiveness of your Call to Action campaigns.
Creating a Source Code
Source Codes can be created for Events, Associations (Membership), and for Fundraising purposes. Based on where you intend to use the Source Code will dictate how it is created. The steps to create a Source Code for each of the three options is very similar. The basic difference is where you create the Source Code.
It is a good idea to create the Source Code from the profile page of the object it will be tied to. For instance, if the Source Code is to be used for a specific fund, go to that fund's profile page and create the source code there. This will allow for the associated information (such as package codes, etc.) to be bundled with the Source Code.
Note: Source Codes can also be created at the Module level. For example, you can create a Source Code by going to the Fundraising Overview page and clicking the Fundraising Setup link.
To create a Source Code, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the profile of the object where the Source Code will be used.
In this example, a Fundraising Source Code will be created for a specific Fund. The reason a Fundraising Source Code was chosen for this example is that it contains all of the fields used by the other two types as well as some additional fields specific to Fundraising.
- Once on the profile page, click the Add icon located on the source codes child form.
This will open the Add - Source Code pop-up window.
- Enter the name of the Source Code in the source code field. This is name that will be displayed in iWeb wherever this Source Code is used.
Note that the source code type field is automatically filled in. This is because netFORUM recognizes that the source code is being created from a Fundraising object.
- Enter the name for this Source Code as you wish it to be seen on eWeb in the eweb code field.
- Set the start date and end date for this Source Code in the appropriate fields.
After entering the basic information about the Source Code, you have the option to tie this code to other attributes. You will notice that the Fund is already specified in the field and field value drop-down menus. This is because you created this Source Code directly from that fund. (If you had created this Source Code from the Fundraising - Overview page, you would need to manually specify this information if you wanted this Source Code tied directly to a specific fund.)
Below the Fund field will be a listing of other attributes that were specified at the Fund level (in this case, the Purpose was specified at the Fund level.) Any attributes specified at the object level will be automatically pre-populated in the field and field value drop-down menus. You have the option to change the values in these drop-down menus, delete these fields from the Source Code, or add new fields to the Source Code.
Click the Delete icon next to the field drop-down menu for the attribute you wish to delete from the Source Code.
To delete all of the attributes from the Source Code, click the Delete icon located at the top of the list of attributes.
To add additional attributes to the Source Code, click the Add at the top of the list of attributes. Clicking this icon will add a new set of field and field value drop-down menus for you to use to select the additional attribute(s) you wish to add.
- Using the attribute controls described above, modify, add, and/or delete the attributes for your Source Code (if needed.)
- Click the Save button.
Your Source Code has now been added to this Fund and is available for use.
Source Code Profile
Once a Source Code has been created it will have a Source Code Profile page. This page will list all of the details of the Source Code, as well as display information on how and where the Source Code is used in the various child forms present.
Clicking the Edit button on the profile will open the Edit - Source Code pop-up window. Here you can make changes to the basic Source Code information and/or manage the attributes associated to the Source Code. You can also delete the Source Code by clicking the Delete button.
Viewing the Transactions child forms will display information on where the Source Code has been used in a transaction (such as invoices, orders, gifts, etc.)
As a Source Code is used, netFORUM will append three unique characters to the end of the code for tracking purposes.
Tip: If the same Source Code is used in multiple segments within the same Call to Action, netFORUM will also append three unique characters to the end of the Source Code for each segment.

Source codes are stored in the co_source_code table.
Source codes may be entered by an online user in the eWeb Shopping Cart to get a cheaper rate.
