Address Validation

The Address Validation functionality provides great flexibility on how addresses are verified in NetForum based on the system options you select. NetForum uses external verification systems (CDYNE, Accumail, Mailers+4, Group1) to validate the addresses, with that default value selected in the setup.

Note: NetForum validates mailing addresses only. If you enter an address as part of a credit card or ACH transaction, that address is validated by the Payment Gateway, not by NetForum. Your Payment Gateway and Merchant Account must have the address verification features enabled for the addresses to be validated.

There are four system options that control this functionality:

AddressCorrection
This controls which external verification system you use.
AddressCorrectionEnabled
This enables the address validation process. You may also specify for iWeb, eWeb, Both, or None.
AutoValidateAddress
This controls the validation process and whether the Validate Address Button displays on any add or edit address pages. If this system option is turned on, the button is not displayed and the address is automatically validated.
AutoAcceptValidation
This controls the acceptance of the addresses and whether the Address Verification Window displays. If this system option is turned on, an error message will be displayed and you will not be able to save an incorrect address. You may also specify for iWeb, eWeb, Both, or None.

Note: Deprecated Notice:
The eWebAllowAddressOverride and eWebValidateAddresses system options are both deprecated and are no longer used by the system. Their functionality has been combined with the system options described above.

Option Settting Validate Address Button Displays Address Verification Window Displays Verification Process
AutoValidateAddress-ON AutoAcceptValidation-ON NO NO Automatically validates and accepts address BUT error message will display if address is incorrect. The address MUST be corrected prior to saving the record.
AutoValidateAddress-OFF AutoAcceptValidation-N/A YES YES Click Address Validation button to validate address. The Verification window will display and the address can be saved as entered. (Note: If the AutoValidateAddress option is disabled, the AutoAcceptValidation option is disregarded.)
AutoValidateAddress-ON AutoAcceptValidation-OFF NO YES Address is automatically validated but if incorrect, can be edited by user and/or saved as entered.

The image below demonstrates how the three system options function and control process flow for Address Validation in iWeb and eWeb:

Address Validation in 2010.01

Usage

To Validate an Address: (AutoValidateAddress system option disabled)

  1. Go to an Individual or Organization Profile or the Add - Individual or Organization page.
    • On the Add page, enter the required data including the address information.
    • On a Profile page, click the edit button on a record in the addresses child form or the Edit Name & Address button on the Information Panel.
    • The Edit - Individual or Organization or the Individual or Organization Name & Address Information page will display.
  2. Click the Validate Address button.
  3. If the address is valid, the Address Verification window will display with the Address Verified message and additional information regarding the address.
  4. Click Save in the window and you will be returned to the previous page.
  1. If the address is not valid, the message "Address cannot be found" will display in multiple places on the page.
  2. Enter the corrected address information and repeat the process to obtain a valid address or disregard the notes and click Save accept the incorrect address.

The do not validate? check box

The do not validate? check box gives you the ability to bypass the validation process for a particular address. This feature allows an address that would cause the validation to fail or otherwise require a change, to be accepted and saved.

Example: A customer want their address to display in a specific format or style.

The do not validate? check box will display where an address can be edited and automatic validation is enabled.

Technical Information

Address Validation is invoked only as described above (and in related pages) on iWeb and eWeb. Address Validation will not occur automatically in any of these scenarios that occur outside the user interface:

  • xWeb
  • Workflow rules that update addresses
  • Interacting with NetForum .NET classes

Note: Deprecated Notice:
The eWebAllowAddressOverride and eWebValidateAddresses system options are both deprecated as of 2010.01 and are no longer used by the system. Their functionality has been combined with the system options described above.
