Creating Custom Links to External Web Sites

Tip: Only entities that do not have an eWeb site created will be able to access the Web Site Wizard. Once you have an eWeb site created, you will only have access to the Web Site Editor. The Web Site Editor gives you the ability to manage every aspect of your eWeb site.

You can use a Custom Link to create a link to an external Web site such as to your organization's main Web site.

To create a link to an external Web site:

  1. Open the Select Web Sections (Content & Functionality) page of the Web Site Wizard. This is the third page in the wizard.
  2. In the Custom Link section of the page, select the check box next to Custom (External) Link.
  3. Enter the link name in the Link Text field. This will be the name that appears in the navigation bar.
  4. Enter the Web site address in the Link URL field.
  5. Select the Link Position (left or top). Left will cause the link to appear in a left navigation bar while top will cause a top navigation link.
  6. Select the Link Order (relative to the other links on your navigation bar.)
  7. To open the external Web site in a new window (so that they can easily come back to the original Web site), select the Open New Window check box.  Otherwise, when clicked, the site will appear in the current window you have open.
  8. To require a log-in for accessing the external Web page, select the Requires Login check box.
  9. To hide the link after the user logs in, select the Hide After Login check box.
