Using a Query to Select Messaging Job Recipients

Messaging Job Setup Wizard - Step 1

With the Messaging Job Setup Wizard, each time you send correspondence, you can use a Query to create a new e-mail recipient list containing the most current data available in the database.

The Recipient Type is the first-level filter and allows you to select the customer: Certificant, Committee Participant, Event Registrant, Individual, Mailing List, Member, Membership Dues, Organization, or Subscriber. One major advantage of using the Messaging Setup Wizard is that queries, instead of searching for just individuals or just organizations, have the ability to search all Customer records (e.g., Subscribers, Event Registrants, Committee Participants, etc.) because it is the Customer record that stores the primary e-mail address.

Note: The items in the Recipient Type drop-down list are system-defined and not configurable.

The Recipient Type you select in the first step determines what options display in the Query drop-down list, which is the second-level filter.

Note: The queries in the E-Marketing module are also available in the Reports module.

After you select the Query, additional Query Parameters display. These parameters give you the to ability to further refine the results of the query using logic statements. For example, if you select the Customer Registration by Event and Date Range Query, you will be given the option to select the Event Name and a Registration Date that is Greater Than or Equal To and Less Than or Equal To specific dates. The parameters filter the database information at runtime, giving you real-time list integration. The result is an e-mail recipient list that contains current, specifically targeted list members.

Note: If you select Membership Dues Recipient Type from the Recipient Type drop-down list, the query results include customers who purchased memberships that will start in the future. (The customers may or may not have a current membership.)
