Transferring Inventory between Warehouses

Use the Transfer icon on the Actions Bar of the Warehouse Profile to transfer merchandise between two warehouses.

  • From Warehouse: Use this drop-down to specify the warehouse you want to transfer your product from. This is most often a secondary, or back-up, warehouse where overstock is kept.
  • Product Name: Specify what merchandise you want to transfer in this drop-down. Notice that when you select a product in this drop-down, the Total field to the right of it will automatically populate with the Total in the warehouse that is available to transfer.
  • Transfer Quantity: Specify the amount of the product that you want to transfer. You may not exceed the total available or you will receive an error message.
  • To Warehouse: Specify the warehouse that you want to transfer the product to in this drop-down. This is most often your Primary warehouse.

Click the Save button to complete the transfer.

Notice that on the Products child form of the transfer From Warehouse that an Activity Type has been added that reflects this Transfer Out, seen in the image below.

Also notice that the Quantity of the From Warehouse was decremented by the Transfer Quantity amount that was specified.

To complement the Transfer Out that was conducted on the From Warehouse, a similar Transfer In Activity Type will be recorded on the Products child form of the To Warehouse, most often the Primary Warehouse.

Because FIFO practices are applied only to the Primary Warehouse, it is recommended that, if you use more than one warehouse, your Secondary Warehouses are used for back-up purposes only. You should only transfer inventory from your Primary Warehouse to your Secondary warehouse in the event that you discontinue a product. If you do not, you risk breaking FIFO rules. View the Help topic on FIFO Accounting and Inventory Management for more information.
