Creating a Twitter App for Integration with netFORUM

Before your entity will allow customers to post Twitter updates from eWeb, you must first create a Twitter App that will integrate Twitter with your netFORUM Pro entity. This is a simple process and quickly accomplished.

To create a Twitter app for integration with netFORUM Pro:

  1. Go to the URL https://apps.twitter.com/ and sign-in using your Twitter account.
  1. Click the Create New App  button.  The Create an Application screen appears.
  2. Name: Enter a descriptive app name. This will be used to attribute the source of customer Tweets and in user-facing authorization screens.
  3. Description:  Enter a description of your app. Again, this will be displayed in user-facing authorization screens.
  4. Website:  Launch eWeb and copy the URL from the address bar in your browser window. Remove all text after “eWeb”. For example, if your eWeb URL is https://netforum.avectra.com/eWeb/StartPage.aspx?Site=Abila, your Site URL will be https://netforum.avectra.com as seen in the image above.
  5. Callback URL:  Same as the Website URL.
  6. Click the Yes, I agree checkbox to agree to Twitter terms at the bottom of the screen and click the Create your Twitter application button.
  7. Click the Keys and Access Tokens tab to review the Consumer Key (API Key) and Consumer Secret (API Secret) fields.

Once you have finalized the settings in your App, you are ready to port some information back into netFORUM Pro to finalize your Twitter integration.

To enter your Twitter Key (Consumer Key) and Twitter Secret (Consumer Secret) fields into netFORUM Pro:

  1. Log in to netFORUM Pro and access the Accounting module Overview page.
  2. On the Accounting Overview page, click the Setup hyperlink.
  3. Expand the Account Information child form.
  4. Click the Edit icon next to the desired account in the Account Information child form.
  5. The Client Information form will appear. In the Social App Information section (this section is visible only after Abila Support has enabled Social Networking Integration for your entity):

    • Copy the Consumer Key from your Twitter App into the Twitter Key field in netFORUM Pro.
    • Copy the Consumer Secret from your Twitter App into the Twitter Secret field in netFORUM Pro.

  6. Click the Save button to finish your Twitter integration with netFORUM Pro.

Your customers may now use the Share with your Social Networks buttons in netFORUM Pro to post status updates on Twitter.

Social Networking App Test Functionality

When creating social networking apps so that your customers may post netFORUM activities such as registering for event to their Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, it is now possible to test your app before releasing the functionality to make sure it is functioning correctly.

Testing the app is located in the same place where your app is integrated with netFORUM once you have finished creating it; that is, in the Account Module > Account Information child form.

To test newly created social networking apps, complete the following steps:

  1. Goto the Account Module and Edit the Account Settings child form for your entity.
  2. In the Social App Information section at the bottom of the form, click the Test Application Settings hyperlink, highlighted below.

 

  1. The Social Application Tests window appears. Notice that if you roll over the Information icon, instructions appear that detail how to test your app for each social network you have created an app for.

 

  1. The Test buttons will return either a success or fail message. Notice that successful messages will appear in green while failure messages will appear in red.
