Adding a Web Site Section

You can add a custom Web section to the Web Site Content directory tree and add security to the section so that a login is required before a user can access the section. You can also set up security that allows only members to access the section and even specific member types.

Note: When you add a custom section or page to the Web Site Content directory tree, the information is directly saved to the database; you do not have to click the Save button. (However, if you add or edit the content area of the page, you must click the Save button.)

To add a custom Web section, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the Web Site module tab.

  2. On the group items bar, click Web Site Editor.

  3. Select the Content tab.

  4. Click the Add Custom Section button at the top of the directory tree.

  1. Enter the Section Name as you want it to appear on your navigation bar.

  1. Set the Security Settings and Behavior:

  2. If you want to require your customers to log in before they are allowed to view this section, select the Pages Require Login check box.

  3. If you want only members with valid memberships to be able to view this section, select the Members-Only Access check box.

  4. If you want the section to override the site defaults you defined for the navigation bar, header, or footer, select the Exclude Site Defaults check box. This is sometimes used for custom sections that are pop-up windows or a section that appears within another section, etc. (Most of the time, this will not be selected.)

  5. If you select the Page Requires Login check box to indicate that a login ID is required to access the section, a lock icon will appear next to the section name in the directory tree. If you select the Members-Only Access check box, a person icon will appear next to the section name in the directory tree.

After you save the Web section information, the new section name will appear in the Web Site Content directory tree. You will notice that there are no pages associated with the section. You will need to add the Web pages to the directory tree by clicking the Add Page icon next to the section name.

Note: In order for a Web page to display on your Web Site, you will need to create a link for the Web page using the Navigation tab.
